ART FAIR TOKYO’s history goes back to Nippon International Contemporary Art Fair (NICAF), which started in 1992 at Pacifico Yokohama as the first major contemporary art fair in Asia. NICAF struggled in Japan’s then inhospitable economic climate and was held for the eighth and final time in 2003.
In 2005, the event relaunched as ART FAIR TOKYO. At its annual venue of Tokyo International Forum, the fair includes exhibits presented by a uniquely wide range of galleries and dealers, encompassing everything from antiques to contemporary art.
In 2012, ART FAIR TOKYO expanded the venue to 5,000 squer meters of TIF Hall E, and the audience passed 50,000 people during the fair.
The Organizing structure has been changed in 2016. ART FAIR TOKYO take not only on the central roles in the ART MARKET, but also expand the role of ART in various fields.
