ART FAIR TOKYO 2014

Dates: March 7,2014 – March 9,2014
Venue: Tokyo International Forum, B2F Exhibition Hall
Number of participant/collaborating galleries: 180 (including corporate/association booths)

This year’s fair saw the inclusion of “G-plus,” a new section curating a bold line-up of contemporary work from 17 major Japanese galleries. The “Discover Asia” section, which showcases leading Asian art, with a total of 8 galleries from Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, as well as galleries from the Philippines and Indonesia participating for the first time. Numerous collectors from Japan and overseas visited the fair, while “Artistic Practice,” a special exhibition of Japanese painting from the modern era under the theme of “modernity, created by Japan,” was acclaimed by all who saw it.
The preview, mark the official launch of the fair was attended by Akie Abe (wife of the Prime Minister of Japan), Masanori Aoyagi (Commissioner for Cultural Affairs, Agency for Cultural Affairs), Eriko Osaka (Director, Yokohama Museum of Art), and Nienke Trooster (Minister Plenipotentiary, Deputy Head of Mission, Head of Economic affairs, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands), a glamorous start worthy of Japan’s largest art fair.
