Taigado was founded by Yozo Shoji in 1929 as a hanging scroll studio in Kyoto. After that, in 1972, Keiichi, the second generation, opened an art gallery for presentations, with the desire to nurture painters who will lead the art world in the future. The new gallery, has moved to Gion since 1986, is not only focusing on interaction with Japanese painters, but also actively trying to develop with contemporary artists. Taigado is heading for the 50th anniversary of opening gallery this year.
