GALLERY SIDE 2 opened in 1997, to introduce the ideas and the works of young contemporary artists who have never shown in Tokyo. With a help of Udomsak Krisanamis, Rirkrit Tiravanija who have been with us for over 20 years, it aimed to introduce new ideas of art that pushes the existing borders. In the past 10 years, the gallery have been working with Japan based artists and currently represents 7 Japanese artists: Jun Fujita, Takeo Hanazawa, Takahiro Inamori, Yuko Murata, Shizuka Mitsui, Masaru Tatsuki. These emerging artists have started to show both internationally and at domestic museum group shows . It also has introduced Korea's Joe Yong Rhee, Italian painter, Santi Alleruzzoin the recent years. In 2024 it has moved to a new space and opened with Peter McDonald's solo exhibition. The gallery continues to work with local and international contemporary artists.
