Uragami Sokyu-do Co., Ltd. was founded in 1979 in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. The founder, Mitsuru Uragami, worked for a well-established antique art dealer, Mayuyama & Co., for five years. Then he started his own business, which marks its 40th anniversary in 2019. We deal with the works of Asian art, especially that of Chinese, Korean and Japanese ceramics; as well as Ukiyo-e wood block prints. Since our establishment, we have organized and curated many exhibitions, which are listed in other page. These exhibitions gained high reputations from museums, collectors, and artists in Japan and abroad, and were featured in a various media besides art magazines. These exhibition catalogues also receive academic recognition from scholars at home and abroad. Moreover, the catalogues have been cited as references in auction catalogues of Sotheby’s and Christie’s for more than 30 times.
Our clients include museums and institutions from all over the world such as the Tokyo National Museum, Kyushu National Museum, Harvard University Art Museum, Cleveland Museum, USA, and so on.
From 1997 to 2007, Uragami Sokyu-do participated in the International Asian Art Fair in New York for 11 years, and Mitsuru Uragami served on vetting committee of the fair.
