COHJU is a contemporary art gallery located in the Gosho-Minami area of Kyoto. Established in 2008 by current owner Hideyuki Nishieda, the gallery occupies a minimalist exhibition space within the COHJU BLDG., designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa. The space is designed as a quiet area where visitors can engage deeply with the artworks.
COHJU primarily represents emerging artists in their 20s and 30s based in Kyoto and other parts of Japan. In recent years, the gallery has also begun working with international artists, introducing works that reflect the diverse values of each generation and cultural background, regardless of gender, nationality, or medium.
In addition to hosting 3 to 4 curated exhibitions annually, COHJU actively participates in international art fairs, including NADA New York, Untitled Miami Beach, and ZONA MACO. Through collaborations and partnerships with galleries in the United States, France, Mexico, South Korea, and beyond, COHJU is committed to introducing the practices of Japanese artists to a global audience.
