LEESAYA is a gallery handling contemporary art that opened its doors in 2019 on the processional road leading to the gate of the Meguro Fudo Temple. This area began to thrive after the dedication of the temple in 808, making it, the oldest one to Fudoson (the Buddhist deity Acala) in the Kanto region. Lee Saya, the gallery’s director, is a third-generation Korean Japanese who was born in Japan in 1987. She proactively introduces artists of the present age who squarely face contemporary issues and share perceptions of them, regardless of their citizenship or media. She opened Backyard, a second exhibition space, in March 2024. She is making diligent efforts together with creators in art and various other genres, and continues to explore the possibilities of expression in today’s world.
